Great Lakes Marine Surveyors, Incorporated, founded in 1969, is located approximately 20 miles northeast of Cleveland, Ohio, on the south shore of Lake Erie. The Company provides an extensive range of marine surveying services, with specialties in yachts and small craft, both pleasure and commercial.

Additional services include, but are not limited to, marina and equipment appraisals, vessel damage surveys, insurance inspections/reinspections, expert/courtroom testimony, and salvage coordination/oversight. Expert consultation services are also available, either in person or over the telephone. Our services can also be custom tailored to meet the needs of individual customers. With every assignment we strive to not only provide, at reasonable cost, a detailed and professional report, but also to make the marine survey process a learning experience for our customers, whom we encourage to attend our inspection and ask whatever questions they may have.

Our home service area is the south shore of Lake Erie, including northern and central Ohio, western Pennsylvania, western New York, western Lake Ontario, eastern Michigan, the Detroit River and lower Lake St. Clair. We have also served customers by special arrangement and request, in the Southeastern states and Florida, Great Britain, Germany, France and the Russian Federation.

Our Chief Surveyor is Gregory G. Group. Mr. Group has been involved in yacht and small craft surveying full time for the company since June of 1980. Mr Group is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio; a graduate of the Charles F. Chapman School of Seamanship, Stewart, Florida, (Yacht Surveying); a member of the American Boat and Yacht Council, and National Fire Protection Association; and a member of the National Association of Marine Surveyors. An avid sailor, powerboater, and historian and an enthusiastic collector of marine artifacts, Mr Group is also fluent in the German language.

Prior to 1980, Mr. Group apprenticed with his father, G. Gordon Group, also a marine surveyor, since childhood. The office and administration work of the corporation is handled by Mrs. Marguerite K. Group, who also founded the company.
